jonmichael Posted February 22, 2010 Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2010 OK people, we have a major success story here. TWO DAYS OF COMPLETELY SOLID, COMPLETELY REGULAR POOPS. This is phenomenal! He has been on 3/4 c. TOTW + 1/4 white rice, once at 6 AM, once at 6 PM. The combination of reducing the amount of food and reducing the amount of feeding times (from 3 to 2) has made him completely solid and completely regular. Amazing! I can basically tell you now exactly when he is going to poop. Next step -- I want to phase out the rice. So I am going to try 1 cup pure TOTW for breakfast tomorrow, and then 3/4 c TOTW + 1/4 c rice for dinner. And then the next day I will phase out the rice completely and see what happens. tazdevil Posted March 12, 2010 Report Share Posted March 12, 2010 I've just had to put my pure white, Koda,onto Harringtons dry kibble (Lamb & Rice Variety) as for nearly 5 years he's been sloppy, solid, semi.....etc, there was only really ever one time he was "solid". This was a bit of vet intervention and after that, I was on a mission! Any brand of food I gave him either went straight thru him and/or he was WELL damaging the ozone layer with his green clouds of obnoxious gases All this was due to prev. owner who had him as a garden ornament for the 4 months she had him. He wasn't use to humans, never had his jabs/housetrained and been beat by a man in dark clothing, poss with a walking stick. I found all this out later with his perculiar behaviour when he came to work with me to get him use to a lot of people around him. She gave him back to the breeder, who fed him on a rich adult feed, which, ended up giving him a VERY sensitive stomach. We took Koda at 6 months old and he's now got a best mate of a JRT (he orig grew up with my terrier X, who I had to have put to sleep after constant seizures ). He went "into-himself" when she wasn't there. Hence, Benji his new little mate . We also now have one of Koda's son's, Demon Little sh*t he is....lol. Make's Benji's life hell, till Benji's hangin' off his jowls when he's had enough of him!!.......lolol All 3 have now been changed over to Harringtons with no sloppy "dumps" n a lot fresher air in the household! . D & his dad are on a cup n a half twice a day & Benji is on half a cup twice a day. All get some treats, but still checking ingredients tho! Got into a habit of this now By the way, it's £2.00 for a 2kg bag (on a roll-back) and £5.00 for a 5kg bag (also on a roll-back) from Asda's. Our little man "Kobe Blue" is 8 and a half months old and had the "runs" for about 4 months solid (no pun intended ;-) !!). We spent approx. $1500 in vets bill trying to sort out his tummy & his diarrhea! We tried everything... had his poop clinically examined, changed his food, had him on various medications etc.. with very little success. There was a break for about 2 weeks where one set of medication put him good again but when he finished that course of meds the dreaded "runs" returned! Our vet gave up & referred us to a specialist who was going to cost the handsome sum of approx $2500 for a diagnosis - which included having a camera shoved down his throat or otherwise!!! We did as much research as we could possibly get our hands on and "this thread" was the start of the road to recovery! Basically we almost halved the amount of food he was getting (which was correct amount for his weight & size according to the vet). We also changed his diet a bit.... we now give him some dried kibble (Wafcol) in the morning mixed with a third of a tray of "Natures Way"... And in the evening he gets a leg and a breast of frozen raw chicken.... Sometimes in the morning I mix in tuna, or an egg or raw beef as a treat. He nibbles away at raw carrots and likes raw sweet potato & other cooked vegetables. He gets boiled chicken as treats over the course of day & it's great when we are recalling him in the park!! Well we didn't want to jinx ourselves by writing this blog too early but we've had about 10 days of solid crap and we're so fricking happy!! As the initiator of this thread, I can also sympathize with your situation completely. There is no shame in emailing pictures of poops back and forth. I have actually been reduced to rushing for the door when my partner goes out with a baggie to pick up a poop and screaming, "No, stop! Let me pick it up!!" I must see and analyze every poop. Congratulations -- as my own experience shows, listening to this group is simply paramount. I was fortunate in that I did not have to spend a lot of money before discovering that I was feeding my pup too much food. To all . . . Wiley is still doing great, by the way.
