Sometimes it gets so bad blood is shed. I don’t know what to do anymore the last thing I want to do is get rid of one. They are both spayed also. My girl and my brothers female mutt tear into each other as soon as they see each other. Been that way ever since mine turned 6 months old. Sometimes it’s over toys or bones but usually we try to pick everything up before we put them together. It sucks because sometimes they get along great then other times they fight bad. My 2 used to fight over food and toys when I first got them, but they don't anymore, it took a few months for it to stop! Sly and Maliki use to have terrible fights because Sly couldn't figure out how to play with Maliki. Maliki is very intolerant of adolescent females trying to do things she doesn't approve off. What they are doing is finding which one is more dominant. If you can't watch it work on them separate them in different cages in the same place looking at each other not side by side. Take them out one at a time for a while. Then slowly work them back together. Dont leave anything on the floor. If you want them to play with toys make them lay down with their toys in separate places. But we are talking dogs (much more serious). It can take a while for them to adjust and admittedly not all dogs will get along, however that’s down to a clash in personality rather than anything else. If they’re playing fine sometimes then fighting another time then I would have thought that would suggest it’s not full on dislike of each other but something is triggering it off: over excitement can lead to aggression, possession/ownership of food/toys/people etc... as others have suggested a behaviourist would be a good idea as they can see what’s going on and teach you how to overcome it. Any time a new pack member enters the family, it throws everything up into the air and an order needs to be re established. chelseafan Posted January 6, 2018 Report Share Posted January 6, 2018 There are dominance issues with my 2 at times, they’ve had 3 fights up to now, blood was drawn on one occasion. So last year I spent time watching them play and looking out for the triggers and once I’d realised the point at which their play became too aggressive I introduced 2 words ‘what’s this’ and gave them a small treat, I did this in the house and on walks so now if they’re becoming too aggressive I say ‘what’s this’ and they immediately stop fighting and come to me, they don’t always get a treat sometimes it’s a squeaky toy or I’ll play ball with them. Toniey Girl Posted May 21 Report Share Posted May 21 If you’re ever in an emergency situation where two dogs are fighting, the safest way to intervene and get them to stop, just pray you have another person there with you because it requires two people one person grabs one dog by both ankles and the other person grabs the other dog by both ankles and at the same time you both want to pull their ankles apart so they lose their balance forcing their jaws to automatically let go, even works to separate pit bulls that have that death grip, I learned this trick from two police officers that just happened to be driving by years when I was walking my female pit bull in the park and I stopped to say hello to my friend in the park who was also walking her female pit bull, not knowing that two female pits together is a huge No No, because female pits are way too jealous and territorial and they will fight to the death, even if they are from the same litter and grew up together or even mother and daughter, it doesn’t matter, eventually they will turn on each other, it’s an inevitable ticking time bomb about to explode into an ugly bloodbath that no shock collar can prevent, but God bless these two gentlemen officers that day for their advice at the right moment, or else it would have been fatal without a doubt because nothing else worked, and the worst thing you can do in that moment is scream because it just got them even more pumped up making it worse, and never stick your hands in the way to try to pry open their jaws because you’re sure to get bit, instead just grab your dog by both ankles and spread them apart slightly lifting them up off the ground as your pulling their legs apart and as soon as they let go then we both grabbed our dogs and ran to our cars, will talk about vet bills later but for now let’s get these two dogs away from each other!
