Heaton Park : Thanks and Apologies

First off thanks to Val for organising the meet.

And to everyone who turned up. . .38 huskies. Whoooooo hoooo. Lol

It was so nice to put faces to names on the forums and getting to know all you guys and your furbabies.

thanks to everyone who made us "southerners" so welcome. (although technically both Linda and myself are born n bred Mancunians)

and so to apologies. . .

As ALL of you know we brought Echo our rescued white GSD. yes the one who won most talkative. . .gobby was more like it.

She wasn't socialised properly by her original owner which is why she was so Barky at all humans and Huskies at the meet. one of the difficulties when you have a dog that appears to display constant open aggression is to get people to approach the dog to try to socialise it and teach it that people are nice and can approach with having to be 'warned off' with barking. So Kelly and I decided to bring Echo along with Darwin and Koda/Daughtry to expose her to lots of people and dogs to try to desensitise her.

Thank you to everyone who did approach her to talk to her and allow their Huskies to come close enough to sniff.

you may have noticed that when we were all walking she calmed down and walked nicely amongst everyone and their Huskies. it was only when we stopped that she 'kicked off' again. From our perpective it was agreat success she did a lot of barking as we expected but also walked calmly in amongst a huge pack of humans and dogs.

Apologies to those who may have thought that we shouldn't have brought such an obviously angry and aggressive dog to the meet.

Thanks to all of you for putting up with us and our non-husky ASBO dog.

Andy Kelly Darwin Koda/Daughtry and Echo

I obviously wasn't there Andy, but I think you did the right thing taking her. Its only be exposing her to these kind of situations that she'll get more comfortable in them, and move on. Socialising her with people that you know, and understand is the best thing for her. Our club here welcome everyone along, for that reason, so that the dogs can be socialised and become caring, sharing members of societylaugh.gif Its brilliant that she walked so well. Well done for taking the time and trouble to turn her aroundsmile.gif

Thanks for your positive comments. At home Echo is a loving sweet girly. She just has this complete Jeckyl n Hyde thing going on when we go outside.

Although I must admit her attitude helps discourage the local hoodies from venturing too close.

Lol

we were coming back from the park one evening and a group of 'youths' were loitering with intent. Echo was delivering her usual torrent of barky abuse at them. one of them said. . "yo. . Dat white one not a wolf dog is it. . . What is it den"?

i simply replied. . . "Hungry" and walked on.
