First off thanks to Val for organising the meet.

And to everyone who turned up. . .38 huskies. Whoooooo hoooo. Lol

It was so nice to put faces to names on the forums and getting to know all you guys and your furbabies.

thanks to everyone who made us "southerners" so welcome. (although technically both Linda and myself are born n bred Mancunians)

and so to apologies. . .

As ALL of you know we brought Echo our rescued white GSD. yes the one who won most talkative. . .gobby was more like it.

She wasn't socialised properly by her original owner which is why she was so Barky at all humans and Huskies at the meet. one of the difficulties when you have a dog that appears to display constant open aggression is to get people to approach the dog to try to socialise it and teach it that people are nice and can approach with having to be 'warned off' with barking. So Kelly and I decided to bring Echo along with Darwin and Koda/Daughtry to expose her to lots of people and dogs to try to desensitise her.

Thank you to everyone who did approach her to talk to her and allow their Huskies to come close enough to sniff.

you may have noticed that when we were all walking she calmed down and walked nicely amongst everyone and their Huskies. it was only when we stopped that she 'kicked off' again. From our perpective it was agreat success she did a lot of barking as we expected but also walked calmly in amongst a huge pack of humans and dogs.

Apologies to those who may have thought that we shouldn't have brought such an obviously angry and aggressive dog to the meet.

Thanks to all of you for putting up with us and our non-husky ASBO dog.

Andy Kelly Darwin Koda/Daughtry and Echo

aww bless her, she is a cracking looking dog Andy :D

Thanks for your positive comments. At home Echo is a loving sweet girly. She just has this complete Jeckyl n Hyde thing going on when we go outside.

Although I must admit her attitude helps discourage the local hoodies from venturing too close.

Lol

we were coming back from the park one evening and a group of 'youths' were loitering with intent. Echo was delivering her usual torrent of barky abuse at them. one of them said. . "yo. . Dat white one not a wolf dog is it. . . What is it den"?

i simply replied. . . "Hungry" and walked on.

Wat a classic i bet u was buzzin for ages afterwards love that lol

No need to apologies i found her fine she wasnt agressive jst a bit noisy but better 2 b noisy then evil lol

I didnt know the story with her (didnt realise she was a her sorryrolleyes.gif) glad u brought her an she will get better everytime

xXx

Sounds like everybody had fun!

Kudos to you Andy for getting Echo out to socialize her. I have a friend with an "ASBO" dog Ginger that we take with us frequently on hikes and to the dog park. My friend is often very embarrassed and apologetic at all of Ginger's vocalizations, but people seem to be very understanding when my friend explains that she's trying to socialize her. Best of all, Ginger is improving (still has some ways to go in some areas, but overall, making progress).

Keep up the great work with Echo!

Can I just say 2 things??

1) It was not me who arranged the meet, the papers lie! It was Sarah - so THANK YOU SARAH for arranging one of the biggest funnest huh.gif meetings I have attended!!

2) Andy - HOW DARE YOU apologise for bringing that beautiful, if not gobby, girl with you!! laugh.gif She was an absolute dream & let me talk with her & stroke her, she is a darling biggrin.gif She certainly gives Linda's Loki a run for her money for talking!!laugh.gif

Consider yourself reprimanded!! I'm so glad you made the long haul up to the meet, it was lovely meeting you & Kelly & the furbies! But as has been said, the best way to socialise her is to take her out & who better than a load of like-minded, understanding & quite frankly, MAD husky owners!!
